Before leaving your house

take out the garbage
turn off all lights and electronics
lock all doors and windows
pull all curtains
check again your travel documentsyour last chance to make sure your passport or ID is with you

for longer trips

empty the fridge and pantry of perishable food
unplug electronics (computer, TV etc)
turn off the main water valve
stop deliveries
put your mail on hould
arrange for care of your pets, lawn, houseplants or snow removal
consider asking your neighbour or a relative to check your place from time to time
